new_center_600St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center provides an array of programs to adults who have developmental disabilities such as autism, Down Syndrome, and cerebral palsy. While there are no cures for developmental disabilities, people with these cognitive disorders can still achieve personal and professional fulfillment.

rentals_pool2Programs include:  Activity Center; Adaptive Computer Training Program; Adult Development Center; Aquatics and Fitness Program; Behavior Modification Program; Art Therapy Programs; Culinary Arts Training Program; Music & Drama & Dance; Organic Garden Program; Senior Program; Sophie’s Gallery and Gift Shop; Speech Therapy and Sign Language; Work Activity and Supported Employment Program. Their mission: To educate and empower individuals with developmental disabilities to realize their full potential.

Established in 1966 in a two-room building on a four-acre parcel of land in El Cajon, California, SMSC now serves over 400 students attending the day program and training center. Facilities include administrative offices, classrooms, art department, aquatic center and beautiful gardens.  This year they launch a 50th Golden Anniversary Campaign to renovate the facility and support the new Aquatics Complex for the next 50 years.
