It was a magical evening for over six hundred guests who gathered at the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier for the 44th Annual Mercy Ball.  Celebrating Scripps Mercy Hospital’s 125th Anniversary and benefiting the Maternal and Child Health Services at the hospital, the event featured a step back to the 1920’s.  Model cars greeted the guest at the foot of Broadway and drove down the pier to the red carpeted entrance.  A live band played music from the twenties atop the four-sided bar that was surrounded by comfortable seating areas for the arriving guests.  The featured cocktail for the evening was the “Astoria” that was served on the Titanic.  But there were no ice bergs this evening as the weather was warm and balmy.  The hall was transformed with the ambiance of a ship.  Directors Catherine Scanlon and her husband Mark and Barbara J. Menard and her partner Jim Ogilvie represented the Menard Family Foundation who was a Helmsmen Sponsor for the event.  Barbara was also recognized in the program as one of the “Mercy Babies.”
