The 47th Annual Mercy Ball was held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the elegant Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel in San Diego. This year’s theme “Journey of Hope” was expressed in the beautiful artwork “Jacaranda” by Erin Hanson commissioned for the event and celebrating Dr. William Stanton for his 46-year medical career as a medical oncologist, long-time Mercy physician and former medical director of the Scripps Cancer Center at Scripps Mercy Hospital. He is renowned for his legacy of patient-centric care and for building the relationship with the new Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center medical Director Dr. Thomas Buchholz. There were over 600 people at this “sold-out” event that benefited the new Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center at Scripps Mercy. Menard Family Foundation Directors Barbara Menard, Marlene Miller and Catherine Scanlon and their spouses were in attendance and were joined by Mercy Sister JoCeal Young, RSM, Fr. Gil Gentile, SJ, Fr. Lawrence Agi, and Sr. Rosanne McGrath, RSM. The evening included the reception, a festive dinner, the program recognizing the Mickelson Family who served as Honorary Co-Chairs for the event and celebrating Dr. Stanton. Monies raised from the evening and live auction will go toward the new cancer center.
