The 4th Annual Mercy Outreach Surgical Team (M.O.S.T.) Mariachi Festival was held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the Jacobs Center. Directors Don Harrington, Barbara Menard, Marlene Miller and Catherine Scanlon were in attendance representing the Menard Family Foundation, as Family Sponsors for the event. For over twenty-five years the M.O.S.T. teams have helped over 11,000 patients in 87 plus trips to Mexico to help those in need to correct crossed eyes, cleft lips, cleft palates, webbed fingers, burn scars and a variety of other medical conditions. M.O.S.T. brings hope, comfort and the opportunity for a better life to children through corrective surgery. The program included silent and live auction, opportunity drawing, cocktails and dinner. The event honored Molly Schmeltzer, a surgical nurse at Scripps Mercy Hospital who has participated in 47 trips to Mexico with M.O.S.T. The evening also included a short video recounting the work of the M.O.S.T. team from last year’s trip and the presence of one of the patients whose life has been changed through the work of M.O.S.T. Mariachi Garibaldi from Southwestern College under the direction of Jeff Nevin, and Juan Rangel of Arte de Floreo, provided the lively entertainment for the evening.
