April 18, 2013 was the grand opening and dedication of the Scripps Diabetes Center in Chula Vista. Barbara J. Menard represented the Menard Family Foundation and joined other members of the Scripps Mercy Board of Directors along with executives from Scripps Mercy’s two hospitals at this event. The Scripps Metabolic Clinic first opened its doors on Dec. 11, 1924, thus beginning almost a century of caring for San Diegans with diabetes and now have expanded to 18 locations across San Diego County. This new location will provide people living with diabetes in Chula Vista and the surrounding communities the resources, knowledge and tools they need to make the best day-to-day decisions about their health and well-being. Services at the clinic include: Peer-led diabetes skill-building groups; Individual appointments for people with diabetes and gestational diabetes; Group classes for Type 2 diabetes; and Nutritional counseling, meal planning and exercise strategies for weight management.
