Barbara Menard and Jim Ogilvie joined Lucy and Steve Howell in their lovely Coronado home on Thursday, June 7, 2018 to host a gathering of friends and supporters of the Society of Jesus. The evening was an opportunity to meet the Jesuit West Provincial, Rev. Scott Santarosa, S.J. and listen to his sharing about the current status of the Jesuit West Province. After hors d’oeuvres and beverages, the guests assembled in the den to watch a video and learn about the needs of the Jesuit West Province including the cost of educating the men in formation and the cost of providing the nursing care and support services for the men in the retirement center, Sacred Heart where Directors Barbara Menard and Marcel Menard’s uncle lived until his death. Like all religious congregations, the Jesuits are experiencing the “inverted triangle” with a few younger men supporting a large number of retired and infirm members. It is only with the support of friends and faithful donors that religious communities can continue to foster religious vocations and minister to the needs of their senior members.
