The annual Lo Maximo Awards Ceremony of Homeboys and Homegirls was held virtually on Saturday,
May 1, 2021. Donors including Menard Family Foundation were treated to a wooden box of
Homeboy/Homegirl gourmet favorites. The Awards Ceremony was hosted by Jane Fonda and Lily
Tomlin and honored Kendra Brown, Homegirl Hero; Santiago Sanchez, Homeboy Hero,
Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard, Homeboy Kinship award and Judge Peter Espinoza, Homeboy
Community Award. Members of MFF gathered in a virtual chat room prior to the event and were
joined by Rev. Gil Gentile, SJ. Lo Maximo is envisioned as a place where everyone can come to the
table and take a glimpse into the ever-widening circle of kinship as “we break bread and barriers
together.” It is an opportunity to celebrate and recognize individuals who have imagined a more
compassionate workd and committed their lives to creating that world. It is a pledge by all
participants to “align ourselves in a movement of hope that uplifts, women, men, and their children
both in and beyond Los Angeles.” To quote Homeboy Industries: “We imagine a world without
prisons, and then we try to create that world…you are invited to envision this world with us.”
