Barbara J. Menard joined a group from the Ignatian Volunteer Corps Regional Council at a table sponsored by the Menard Family Foundation to celebrate the accomplishments of the students from Nativity Prep Academy in San Diego on March 7, 2012. The breakfast was held at the Mission Tower Ballroom at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The students from NPA acted as hosts/hostesses and shared their talents in music and song.
The mission of Nativity Prep Academy is to provide a Catholic-Christian college prep education to inner-city children. It combats the cycle of poverty plaguing the inner city by committing to each student’s total development: academic, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual. Their acclaimed national model sends 80% of low-income students to college. With 10-hour school days, tutoring, mentoring, summer semester and comprehensive programs for graduates, the expectation is that students reach their full potential and succeed in high school, college, and beyond.
