Route 66 is the theme for the 50th Anniversary of St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center that opened in 1966. The Anniversary Kick-Off Reception was help at the University of San Diego, Kroc Institute of Peace and Justice on Saturday, November 7, 2015. Sr. Mary Mardel, RSCJ, a Religious of the Sacred Heart, and one of the founding sisters for St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center, was in attendance. It is hard to believe that for half a century, St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center has been providing empowerment for life through innovation and education for individuals with developmental disabilities. The kick-off included cars from the sixties, live 60’s music, delicious hors d’oeuvres, and silent auction items. Debra Turner Emerson provided an update on the fundraising efforts for the fiftieth year. It was a perfect afternoon event in the garden overlooking Mission Bay and the ocean to the west.
