On June 16, 2018 the 35th annual Rendezvous In The Zoo “Wild at Heart” brought together San Diego Zoo Global supporters and friends including Barbara Menard and Jim Ogilvie representing the Menard Family Foundation for a spectacular evening featuring delicious cuisine, animal ambassadors, glittering décor, and dancing to the ever-popular Wayne Foster Band. Through the generous participation of donors more than $1.7 million dollars was raised for the new Sanford Children’s Zoo at the San Diego Zoo. This amazing new facility is made possible through the generous multimillion-dollar gift of Denny Sanford which is launching the new Children’s zoo project. The Sanford Children’s Zoo will focus on developing empathy for all wild life through innovative and interactive nature-play experiences and habitats. Mr. Sanford and guests were recognized during the gala and created excitement about the project that will provide opportunities for everyone to fall in love with animals and be “wild at heart.” The reinvented space will create a “nature wonderland” filled with immersive experiences in which children can learn about animals and their environment by playing and experiencing it through an animal’s perspective. This will truly be a place where children of all ages can meet a great variety of animals while learning fascinating facts about the earth we all share.
